Update 16.2.2024: The regulations and prices will remain effective until July 31st 2024.
The war and the sanctions in Brussels have triggered an energy crisis throughout Europe, which has led to a drastic increase in market prices for energy. The Hungarian government has largely maintained the energy price cuts that have been in place for ten years. According to the company’s own information, about 25% of households will be affected by the increases.
Consumers can continue to buy natural gas at reduced prices up to an annual volume of 63,645 MJ, i.e. at least 1,729 m3. Above the reduced band limit, customers do not have to pay the real market price, but the much more favorable housing market price.
- Up to an annual consumption of 1,729 m3, the price will remain HUF 102/m3, i.e. you will pay HUF 102 per cubic meter for gas with reduced overhead up to a monthly consumption of 144 m3.
- Above 1729 m3/year consumption, i.e. above 144 m3 gas consumption per month, the market price of gas rises to HUF 747/m3, which is half of the seven-fold increase in price.
- If you manage to consume less than 144 cubic meters of Gas, your monthly gas bill will be HUF 14.688 (ca. 40 Euro)
Discount period
The discount will apply for the annual period from August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2024 and will be calculated based on time and usage.
Billing, monthly consumption for gas
You are entitled to the reduced amount at each of your consumption points. The amount of the discount does not depend on the number of persons and households using the gas at the place of consumption. It is not possible to transfer quantities between consumption points. If your consumption is below the reduced bandwidth, usually only the reduced price will be shown on your bill.
If your consumption exceeds the preferential bandwidth, your monthly bill will include both the discounted price and the market price for households that is lower than the actual market price, regardless of the quantity prescribed or overpaid. After the meter reading, you will pay for the actual gas used, regardless of whether you paid a monthly default or a monthly flat rate until the annual billing. You will be charged the discounted rate up to the time and consumption portion of the discounted quantity for the billing period, and any consumption in excess of this will be charged at the higher residential rate. It should be noted that the discount quantity not used due to the time and consumption-based calculation is not lost, but is taken into account in the next billing.
If you want to balance your monthly costs from winter to summer, making your expenses more predictable, opt for flat, even billing. However, you should consider your consumption habits when determining the monthly amount.
Invoices, invoice payment
For the first time, we will send you a bill that may include the market price for households with above-average consumption. However, the retail price is still well below the world market price.
Your bill may also include consumption prior to August 1, which will be charged at the discounted rate in effect prior to August 1.
Please note that the info box on our invoices has been changed to include the most important information. You can now see how much you would have paid for the consumption shown in your bill without the discount and how much you have saved thanks to the discount.
Discounts
Condominiums and housing cooperatives are entitled to a rebate for each individual apartment in addition to the rebate for common consumption. To be eligible for the additional amount, they must make a declaration.
Large families are eligible for a discount. For these families, the average consumption limit is higher, as the general average consumption of 1729 m3 increases by an additional 600 m3 for three children and by 300 m3 for each additional child. Large families can apply to the authorities for the large family allowance.
Consumers can continue to purchase electricity at discounted prices up to a maximum of 2523 kWh per year. Above the reduced band limit, customers do not have to pay the real market price, but the much more favorable housing market price.
- The price will remain HUF 36/kWh up to an annual consumption of 2,523 kWh, i.e. from August 1, 2022, you will have to pay HUF 36 per kilowatt-hour for electricity with reduced overhead costs up to a monthly consumption of 210 kWh.
- Above the consumption limit of 2,523 kWh/year, i.e. above 210 kWh consumption per month, the market price of electricity rises to HUF 70.1/kWh.
- If you manage to keep consumption per month below 210 kWh, your monthly electricity bill will be HUF 7.560 (ca 20 Euro)
Discount period
The discounted amount is for the annual period from August 1, 2022 to July 31, 2024, calculated pro rata temporis.
Billing, monthly consumption for electricity
You are entitled to the reduced amount for each consumption point per metering point (i.e., for example, for your daily meter and your controlled meter). The discount rate is not affected by the number of persons or households consuming the electricity at the point of purchase. It is not possible to transfer quantities between measuring points.
If your consumption is below the discounted band limit, usually only the discounted price will be shown on your bill. If your consumption exceeds the preferred bandwidth, your monthly bill will include both the discounted and market rate, regardless of whether you overpaid or underpaid.
After the meter reading, you pay for the electricity you actually use, regardless of whether you paid a monthly default or a monthly flat rate until the annual billing. In either case, we will bill you for the portion of your consumption up to the reduced amount for the billing period at the reduced rate, and if you have consumed more, we will bill you for the amount at the higher market rate. It is important to know that any unused discounted quantity due to pro-rated billing will not be lost and will be included in the next billing.
If you want to balance your monthly costs from winter to summer, making your expenses more predictable, opt for flat, even billing. However, you should consider your consumption habits when determining the monthly amount.

This also applies to the collective consumption of a condominium or housing association that is not yet eligible as a household for universal service, but this must be specified.
An additional rebate of 1697 kWh/year may be applied to state agencies for the electricity consumption of electrical medical supplies used by a disabled person.
